Maya Abdominal Massage

What is Maya Abdominal Massage?

Maya Abdominal Massage (MAM) benefits the reproductive, digestive, and urogenital organs while improving overall health. Whereas modern medicine focuses on relieving symptoms to fix gynecological complaints, the ancient therapy of MAM focuses on the root cause, thereby relieving and preventing progression of symptoms and allowing the body to heal itself.

How is the massage done?

During the first session, your history and current issues are reviewed before beginning the massage. The treatment process is explained and any questions are answered.

The massage is applied externally to the low back and the abdominal area. The abdominal massage focuses on aligning the reproductive and abdominal organs. Complementary massage techniques may be used to enhance results. The massage itself usually takes just under an hour. Essential oils and special oils are incorporated into the treatment, depending on individual needs.

Self-care instruction to be applied at home will enhance treatment benefits. The self-care training takes about 15 minutes and is given during the initial appointment and includes handouts.

How does MAM apply to women’s health?

We recommend MAM to enhance fertility or regulate the menstrual cycle, during pregnancy after 20 weeks, and for labor preparation and delivery. MAM gently guides the reproductive organs into optimal position, increases blood and lymph circulation and regulates nerve impulses. MAM diminishes old adhesions in the pelvic and abdominal area resulting from fibroid tumors, endometriosis, and cesarean deliveries. MAM flushes toxins, restores nutrients that tone tissue and balance hormones, and eases digestive, urinary, and bladder problems.

What conditions is MAM recommended for?

MAM is commonly used to allievate painful periods, PMS, and emotional disorders resulting from irregular hormones. Endometriosis, fibroids, polycystic ovarian syndrome, recurrent miscarriages, and irregular menstruation all respond great to MAM.

MAM benefits digestive disorders, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and Gastro Esophogeal Reflux (GERD).

Is MAM just for women?

Maya Abdominal Massage can also benefit men by helping to alleviate prostate problems by preventing or treating swelling and inflammation. Symptoms eased by Maya Abdominal Massage for men include early stages of prostate swelling, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), and some forms of impotence and erectile dysfunction.

When is Maya Abdominal Massage not recommended?

You should not get a MAM during menstruation or five days prior to starting the menstrual period, during the first 19 weeks of pregnancy, if an IUD is present, immediately after abdominal surgery, or if there is active infection (such as a yeast infection) or cancer in the pelvic area.
